Kitty B. Uijleman

She is an author, editor, and creator of Desert Meeples , a platform dedicated to modern board games as a tool for family connection and community building in the Middle East. Founder of the Desert Meeples Board Game Club and creator of Desert Meeples Magazine , Kitty has for more than five years promoted a movement that brings board games closer to children, families and adults, fostering coexistence, creativity and strategic thinking away from screens. From Dubai, their work has fostered a strong community encompassing local clubs, family gatherings, board game retreats across various emirates, and a magazine that keeps the conversation about gaming culture alive year-round. Their approach is based on hospitality, shared learning, and creating spaces where anyone—regardless of age or experience—can feel welcome to play. Through her books and publications, Kitty shares her vision of board games as a transformative experience: a mindful pause, a common language, and a simple and powerful way to reconnect with others.
